PROFESSIONALS TRUST US – FOR A LIFETIME
The knife is the extension of the chef's arm. With the Premier Plus series, your knife works practically by itself. This gives you time not only to concentrate on your craft, but also to give your creativity free rein to create exciting dishes. This is exactly what trained professional chefs and our top chefs appreciate about the F. DICK brand - quality that will accompany you for a lifetime.

FORGED BALANCE
All Premier Plus knives are forged and perfectly balanced. Already during the development of the knives, we placed special emphasis on optimising the weight distribution between the blade and the handle so that the knife feels light and comfortable in your hand. Imagine your handle is too heavy or your blade too heavy. Your knife would always tend towards the heavy side and you would have to fight against the weight when cutting. This will certainly not happen with Premier Plus knives.

SHARP
The blade is made of the high quality X50CrMoV15 steel alloy. Each component of this steel has its own impressive features. Thanks to the high carbon content, the edge retains its sharpness for a particularly long time, the chromium content reduces wear and the molybdenum makes your knife particularly corrosion-resistant. We have also decided to polish the cutting edge to give the knives a special sharpness. Premier Plus knives are uncompromising in their design when it comes to sharpness. The food is cut exactly and not broken or squashed. This way, you work with precise, clean cuts, allowing the variety of flavours in the dish to come to the fore.

ERGONOMIC HANDLE
The Premier Plus knives support you in your kitchen adventures. Our special handle concept also speaks for itself: The handle and blade are joined together without gaps, making them particularly hygienic and easy to maintain. The handle feels comfortable and adapts to your hand thanks to its ergonomic design. This is important to prevent your hand from tiring quickly when you use the knife for a long time.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

KNIFE BLOCK FOR KNIVES
Knife block: Knife block with tourne knife, paring knife, boning knife, carving knife, bread knife, chef's knife, meat fork, sharpening steel and kitchen shears.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping. Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

FAQ & Technical

FAQ & Technical

People Also Ask:

Q: What is the F. Dick Premier Plus 5" Serrated Utility Knife best used for?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus 5" Serrated Utility Knife is best suited for precision slicing tasks where a clean cut through delicate or textured surfaces matters, including tomatoes, crusty bread, citrus, sausages, sandwiches, and prepared proteins.

Its serrated edge helps the blade grip slippery or soft surfaces without crushing the product, making it especially useful in professional prep environments where consistency and presentation matter. The forged Premier Plus construction also gives the knife a balanced feel that supports controlled, repetitive cutting throughout the day.

Beyond the technical features, what matters most is how this performs in busy kitchens, deli counters, butcher shops, cafés, and catering operations. In practical terms, this means cleaner slices, less tearing, and smoother workflows during prep and service.

Q: Who should use the F. Dick Premier Plus Serrated Utility Knife?

A: The F. Dick Premier Plus Serrated Utility Knife is designed for chefs, deli professionals, butchers, sandwich stations, catering teams, and serious culinary users who need a compact knife for detailed slicing work.

Its 5" blade size offers excellent manoeuvrability in tighter prep spaces where a larger chef’s knife would feel excessive. The forged construction and ergonomic handle also make it appropriate for professionals working long shifts who require comfort and control during continuous use.

For culinary students and ambitious home cooks, this knife provides access to a true professional-grade cutting experience without requiring the footprint of a larger utility or chef knife.

Q: Can the Premier Plus 5" Serrated Utility Knife cut tomatoes and soft produce cleanly?

A: Yes. The serrated edge is specifically effective for tomatoes, citrus, soft fruits, and delicate produce where smooth skins and soft interiors can challenge straight-edge knives.

The serrations create controlled bite at the point of contact, allowing the knife to penetrate cleanly without excessive downward pressure. This helps preserve texture and presentation while reducing crushing and juice loss during prep.

From a business perspective, cleaner cuts improve plate presentation, deli merchandising, and consistency across prepared foods and sandwiches.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Serrated Utility Knife suitable for sandwich and deli stations?

A: Yes. This knife is particularly well suited for sandwich assembly, deli prep, and grab-and-go foodservice applications.

The compact blade length allows staff to work efficiently in confined prep stations, while the serrated edge cuts through bread, meats, vegetables, and sandwiches without compressing ingredients excessively. This improves both workflow speed and finished product appearance.

For operators managing high-volume lunch or prepared-food programs, the knife supports consistent portioning and a cleaner customer-facing presentation.

Q: How durable is the F. Dick Premier Plus Series compared to stamped utility knives?

A: The Premier Plus Series is significantly more robust than typical stamped utility knives because it uses forged construction designed for demanding professional environments.

Forged knives generally provide better balance, structural strength, and long-term durability under repetitive commercial use. The full forged design also contributes to greater cutting stability and reduced hand fatigue during extended prep periods.

That is where the Premier Plus Series becomes a real advantage for professional kitchens and butcher operations that depend on tools performing reliably day after day.

Q: What makes the Premier Plus Series different from entry-level utility knives?

A: The Premier Plus Series combines forged German construction, professional balance, ergonomic handling, and long-term durability in a way entry-level utility knives typically do not.

While economy utility knives may work adequately for light-duty use, Premier Plus is designed for continuous professional workflows where edge stability, comfort, hygiene, and reliability directly affect kitchen performance.

Combined with the broader F. Dick sharpening ecosystem, the knife also supports easier long-term maintenance and operational consistency.

Q: Is the 5" blade size practical for professional prep work?

A: Yes. A 5" utility format is widely considered one of the most versatile sizes for precision prep and line work.

It provides more control than a large chef’s knife while offering greater reach and cutting efficiency than a paring knife. This makes it ideal for garnishes, sandwich prep, produce slicing, small proteins, and quick service applications.

For many professionals, a utility knife becomes one of the most frequently used blades during daily prep because of its adaptability across multiple tasks.

Q: Does the serrated edge stay effective longer than a straight edge?

A: In many commercial applications, serrated utility knives maintain effective cutting performance longer between sharpenings than comparable straight-edge knives.

Because the recessed serrations protect portions of the cutting edge from direct surface wear, the blade can continue slicing efficiently even after extensive daily use. This is especially valuable in sandwich shops, cafés, and deli programs with repetitive slicing tasks.

However, proper maintenance and correct sharpening methods remain important for maximizing long-term performance.

Q: Is the F. Dick Premier Plus Utility Knife comfortable for extended use?

A: Yes. The Premier Plus Series is designed with professional ergonomics intended for prolonged kitchen and food-preparation use.

The handle shape supports a secure grip while helping reduce strain during repetitive cutting tasks. Combined with the forged balance of the knife, this creates a more controlled and stable cutting experience throughout long prep shifts.

In practical terms, improved ergonomics contribute to smoother workflows, greater confidence during precision cutting, and reduced fatigue over time.

Q: Can this knife handle crusty bread and rolls?

A: Yes. The serrated edge performs very well on crusty breads, rolls, baguettes, and artisan sandwich products.

The teeth of the blade help penetrate firm crusts cleanly while minimizing compression of softer interiors. This allows operators to maintain product structure and presentation quality during slicing.

For cafés, bakeries, and deli operations, that translates into more professional-looking sandwiches and less waste from torn or crushed bread.

Q: Is the Premier Plus Series appropriate for high-volume commercial kitchens?

A: Yes. The Premier Plus Series is built specifically for demanding professional foodservice environments where knives are used continuously throughout the day.

The forged construction, durable materials, and professional balance support intensive prep workflows across restaurants, butcher shops, institutional kitchens, and catering operations. The knife is engineered to deliver reliable cutting performance under real commercial conditions.

For operators focused on consistency and efficiency, professional-grade tools like Premier Plus help support smoother kitchen execution.

Q: What types of foods should not be cut with this serrated utility knife?

A: This knife is not intended for heavy bone work, frozen products, or hard chopping applications.

It is optimized for slicing and precision utility tasks rather than impact cutting. Using the knife outside its intended application can reduce edge life and compromise long-term performance.

For hard proteins, bone-in cuts, or fabrication work, a dedicated butcher or boning knife would be the more appropriate choice.

Q: How does the Premier Plus Series compare to standard restaurant utility knives?

A: Compared with standard restaurant utility knives, the Premier Plus Series offers a more refined professional feel, stronger forged construction, improved balance, and better long-term durability.

Many generic utility knives prioritize lower acquisition cost over cutting precision and ergonomic performance. Premier Plus instead focuses on repeatable professional results, edge stability, and daily operational reliability.

That difference becomes especially noticeable in high-frequency prep environments where cutting efficiency directly affects workflow speed and user comfort.

Q: Is this knife a good choice for culinary students and apprentices?

A: Yes. Culinary students and apprentices can benefit from using a professional-grade utility knife that teaches proper knife handling and precision control early in training.

The manageable 5" size helps newer users build confidence while still delivering the feel and balance expected in professional kitchens. The serrated format is also highly practical for everyday prep tasks encountered in culinary school and entry-level foodservice roles.

For developing professionals, investing in dependable core tools helps establish stronger knife skills and better prep habits from the beginning.

Q: Does the black handle support professional kitchen hygiene standards?

A: Yes. The professional synthetic handle is designed for durability, secure handling, and hygienic daily foodservice use.

The handle construction supports easier cleaning and dependable grip performance in fast-paced prep environments. Professional kitchens also value darker handles because they maintain a clean visual appearance during continuous commercial use.

Combined with proper sanitation procedures, the knife supports the operational standards expected in professional food environments.

Q: Is the Premier Plus Serrated Utility Knife reliable during peak lunch periods?

A: Yes. The knife is built for repetitive, high-speed slicing tasks common in busy deli and sandwich operations.

Its serrated edge helps staff move quickly through bread, tomatoes, proteins, and prepared sandwiches while maintaining cleaner presentation and more consistent cuts. The forged balance also improves stability during repetitive production work.

During peak service windows, reliable cutting tools help maintain speed, consistency, and customer-facing quality standards.

Q: Does the Premier Plus Series offer the control needed for precision prep?

A: Yes. The forged balance and compact blade format provide excellent control for detailed prep work and finishing tasks.

Chefs often use utility knives for garnish work, citrus prep, sandwich assembly, and precision slicing where larger knives feel oversized. The Premier Plus design supports controlled movement and confident handling across varied prep applications.

In practical terms, this helps improve precision while reducing unnecessary fatigue during extended prep sessions.

Q: Is this knife practical for mobile or off-site foodservice operations?

A: Yes. The compact size and versatile serrated edge make it highly practical for catering environments and mobile prep kits.

Catering teams often need a single knife capable of handling breads, produce, proteins, garnishes, and sandwich assembly across multiple service situations. The 5" Premier Plus utility format adapts well to those changing prep demands while remaining easy to transport and store.

That flexibility makes it a dependable addition to professional catering knife rolls and event prep stations.

Q: Can this knife improve presentation quality?

A: Yes. The serrated utility format helps create cleaner slices on prepared foods, tomatoes, sandwiches, sausages, and display-ready products.

Consistent slicing improves the visual appeal of prepared items while reducing tearing and compression that can negatively affect merchandising. This is especially important in customer-facing retail environments where presentation influences purchasing decisions.

From a merchandising perspective, cleaner cuts support a more premium finished appearance.

Q: Is the Premier Plus Series worth upgrading to from consumer-grade knives?

A: Yes. The Premier Plus Series delivers a noticeably more professional cutting experience than many consumer-grade utility knives.

Users typically notice improved balance, cleaner cutting performance, greater comfort, and stronger long-term durability. The knife is built around professional kitchen standards rather than occasional household use.

Whether preparing sandwiches, produce, breads, or light proteins, the knife helps elevate consistency and overall prep efficiency in the kitchen.
