Visually stunning blades with hammered embossing and a carbon look, and handles made of valuable, indestructible oak wood. Diversity and functionality have been the guiding principle at Friedr. Dick since the company began. This diversity is not based on short-lived trends, but on the different requirements and design requests of the users. With the DarkNitro series, Friedr. Dick has deliberately refrained from using visual fads and focused on the pure industrial design.

The anthracite blade is coloured by means of a special environmentally friendly process. This gives the knives their pure industrial beauty. The hammered finish on the blade underlines its uniqueness and functionality. The oak handle symbolizes endurance, power and strength. The sharp and clear line of the handle reinforces the knife's aesthetics.

The extremely thin, sharp blade makes cutting a "weightless" pleasure. The hammered technique also creates many small air cushions between the blade and the food being cut. This makes it easier to remove any food from the blade surface and reduces the amount of food that sticks to the blade.

Designed for cutting, not chopping. The knives are sharpened with a thin cutting edge and must only be used for cutting. The knives can become blunt very quickly if used on a hard cutting boards made of glass, stainless steel, marble or granite. Therefore, we recommend using a Profboard cutting board to provide a level, stable and safe cutting surface for your valuable knives. See our cutting board options here.

Friedr. Dick uses a special martensitic, stainless and nitrogen-alloyed steel in the DarkNitro series. This results in a unique combination of excellent cutting performance, exceptional hardness of 61 HRC and special corrosion resistance. This corresponds to the highest achievable hardness to date without any negative influence on the microstructure and stability. For a perfect material structure, DarkNitro knives are forged in a special process and then ice-hardened at temperatures down to -197°. The very fine microstructure of the steel allows for simple sharpening, resulting in a very sharp cutting edge. The anthracite-coloured blade gives the knives their pure industrial beauty. The hammered finish on the blade underlines the uniqueness of each knife.

Friedr. Dick uses the finest robust oak wood for the handle. Oak trees are known for their longevity; a tree can grow over 800 years old. The oak tree is shrouded in legend and steeped in history and is known for being one of the main deciduous trees in Europe. Ships were built with oak as long as 1,000 years ago and until today, oak barrels are used to store special whisky and wine. So it’s no wonder that Friedr. Dick has chosen a handle from oak wood for the new unique series of knives. The handle, ground by expert craftspeople at Friedr. Dick, makes each piece a unique item with its own colour character and wood grain.

The knife is the extension of a chef’s arm. The harmony between the blade shape, bolster and handle must there-fore be correct. The perfect cutting ability, ergonomic handle and bevelled bolster shape make the knives from the DarkNitro series a first-class knife and meet the highest requirements of professional chefs and ambitious amateur cooks The knife is ideally balanced and sits comfortably in the hand.

Dark Nitro knives are fundamentally rust-resistant; however it all depends on the right care. Improper cleaning can cause rust to set in. We recommend cleaning by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe the knives after cleaning to ensure that they are thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. For the sharpening steel we also recommend a gentle cleaning by hand using a mild alkaline cleaning agent. Then dry the steel with a soft, lint-free cloth. Choose a dry place for storage.

Acids, such as those found in lemons or onions, are very aggressive and cause surface oxidization. For this reason, the knives should be rinsed immediately after cutting acidic food.

For long-term protection, you should occasionally “ pamper” the oak handles with food-grade oils (e.g. olive oil). To do this, lightly rub oil into the handle. This prevents the ingress of moisture and also refreshes the natural grain and colour of the wood.

We recommend storing the knives in a suitable knife block, on a magnetic rail or in another dry location where the blades do not come into contact with each other and get damaged. It is not ideal for knives to be stored in a drawer. If this is the case, a F. DICK blade guard, for example, should be used to separate the knives from each other.

The extended blade length also supports smoother, longer slicing motions, especially when working with larger sourdough loaves, baguettes, or sandwich breads. Within the DarkNitro series, the knife combines premium blade performance with a refined oak wood handle aesthetic that appeals to chefs, open-kitchen operators, artisan bakeries, and premium food retail environments. Beyond technical sharpness, what matters most is how confidently and efficiently the knife performs during repetitive daily prep.

A: The DarkNitro series combines professional cutting performance with elevated materials, modern styling, and enhanced edge characteristics designed for demanding culinary environments. Unlike entry-level bread knives focused strictly on utility, DarkNitro models emphasize both performance and presentation. The dark blade finish creates a distinctive professional appearance, while the oak handle introduces a warmer, more refined feel compared with synthetic commercial handles. This makes the series especially attractive for open kitchens, chef-driven restaurants, premium bakeries, and culinary professionals who value craftsmanship alongside functionality. From a performance perspective, F. Dick’s professional knife heritage supports blade geometry, balance, and cutting consistency that align with real-world professional use. Combined with Food Supplies’ curated portfolio of premium culinary brands, the DarkNitro series positions itself as a professional solution rather than a commodity kitchen knife.

Q: Can the F. Dick DarkNitro Bread Knife handle artisan sourdough and crusty breads?

A: Yes. The F. Dick DarkNitro Bread Knife is specifically well suited for artisan sourdough, crusty baguettes, rustic country loaves, and other hard-crust breads that require controlled serrated cutting. The long serrated edge helps penetrate thick crusts cleanly without excessive downward force. In practical terms, this reduces tearing, flattening, and crumbling during slicing. For bakeries, cafés, and food retailers where presentation quality matters, this creates more uniform slices and cleaner visual results for display or sandwich preparation. The 10-inch blade length also provides better efficiency when cutting oversized loaves compared with shorter bread knives. This becomes especially valuable in professional environments where speed, consistency, and reduced product waste directly affect workflow.

Q: Is the F. Dick DarkNitro Bread Knife suitable for professional kitchens?

A: Yes. The knife is built for professional culinary environments where reliability, comfort, and cutting consistency are essential during daily prep and service. Professional kitchens often require tools that maintain predictable performance under repetitive use. The DarkNitro Bread Knife supports that requirement through its balanced construction, long slicing reach, and ergonomic handling characteristics. Whether used in bakeries, hotels, restaurants, catering operations, or gourmet retail environments, the knife is designed to support efficient slicing without excessive operator fatigue. From a business perspective, professional-grade bread knives also help reduce unnecessary waste caused by crushed products, uneven slices, or excessive crumbing. That translates into cleaner presentation and smoother workflow during busy production periods.

Q: Is the DarkNitro Bread Knife appropriate for serious home cooks?

A: Absolutely. Serious home cooks who regularly bake bread, entertain, or invest in premium kitchen tools will appreciate both the performance and craftsmanship of the DarkNitro series. Many consumer bread knives struggle with consistency when slicing fresh artisan bread or delicate pastries. The DarkNitro Bread Knife delivers a more professional cutting experience with better control, smoother slicing motion, and improved edge engagement across larger loaves. The oak handle and dark finish also make the knife visually distinctive for users who value premium kitchen aesthetics. Whether displayed on a magnetic rack or integrated into a curated knife collection, the knife balances functionality with presentation.

Q: How sharp is the F. Dick DarkNitro Bread Knife?

A: The F. Dick DarkNitro Bread Knife is engineered to deliver aggressive yet controlled serrated cutting performance suitable for professional daily use. Unlike straight-edge chef knives, bread knives rely on serration geometry rather than polished edge sharpness alone. The serrated profile helps grip crust surfaces efficiently while maintaining smooth cutting progression through softer interiors. This allows the knife to perform consistently across breads, pastries, cakes, and delicate baked goods. F. Dick’s long-standing reputation in professional cutlery is closely tied to cutting efficiency, balance, and maintainability across demanding kitchen environments. The DarkNitro series extends that professional approach into a more refined premium format.

Q: What results should users expect from the DarkNitro Bread Knife?

A: Users should expect cleaner slices, less product compression, improved presentation quality, and smoother cutting performance across a wide range of baked goods. In real-world use, a quality bread knife reduces tearing and crumbling while helping maintain loaf structure and texture. This is particularly important for artisan breads with soft interiors and hard crusts. The longer blade length also improves slicing fluidity by reducing the need for repeated sawing motions. For professional operators, this contributes to faster prep, more consistent portions, and stronger product presentation. For home users, it simply creates a more enjoyable and controlled cutting experience.

Q: How durable is the F. Dick DarkNitro Bread Knife for daily use?

A: The knife is built to support regular professional or enthusiast-level use when maintained properly. Professional kitchen environments demand tools that can withstand repetitive cutting cycles while maintaining structural integrity and cutting efficiency. The DarkNitro series is designed around those expectations, combining professional-grade blade construction with ergonomic handling characteristics intended for long-term usability. The oak handle adds premium visual appeal, but users should still follow proper knife-care practices, including hand washing, drying immediately after cleaning, and safe storage. Proper maintenance helps preserve both blade performance and handle appearance over time.

Q: Is the 10-inch blade length practical for everyday kitchen work?

A: Yes. A 10-inch bread knife offers excellent versatility for both professional and advanced home kitchen applications. The longer blade provides smoother slicing across larger loaves, cakes, and baked items without requiring excessive back-and-forth movement. This creates cleaner cuts and better operator control, especially when working with crust-heavy artisan products. For smaller breads and pastries, the blade length still remains manageable while offering greater flexibility than shorter bread knives. In busy kitchens, versatility matters because it reduces the need to switch tools during prep.

Q: Is the oak handle comfortable during extended use?

A: Yes. The oak handle is designed to provide a comfortable, balanced grip while contributing to the premium feel of the DarkNitro series. Handle comfort becomes increasingly important during repetitive slicing tasks. The ergonomic shape supports stable handling and controlled movement while helping reduce unnecessary hand strain during extended prep sessions. Beyond ergonomics, the oak handle also creates a warmer and more refined tactile experience compared with many molded commercial handles. This combination of comfort and presentation aligns well with chef-driven kitchens and premium culinary environments.

Q: Is the DarkNitro Bread Knife easy to maintain?

A: Yes, provided standard professional knife-care practices are followed. Bread knives generally require less frequent sharpening than straight-edge chef knives because serrations maintain effective cutting performance longer during normal use. However, proper cleaning and storage remain important for preserving long-term performance and appearance. Operators and home users should avoid dishwasher cleaning, prolonged moisture exposure, and improper storage conditions that may affect the oak handle or blade finish. Safe storage in knife racks, guards, or magnetic systems helps protect the serrated edge from unnecessary wear.

Q: What is included with the F. Dick DarkNitro Bread Knife?

A: The product includes the fully assembled F. Dick DarkNitro Bread Knife with a 10-inch serrated blade and oak handle construction. The knife arrives ready for immediate kitchen use without additional assembly or setup requirements. Depending on operational needs, many professional users pair bread knives with knife guards, sharpening systems, magnetic storage solutions, or dedicated knife rolls to support safer transport and storage. Q: What types of kitchens benefit most from the DarkNitro Bread Knife?

A: The knife performs especially well in artisan bakeries, restaurants, cafés, gourmet food retail operations, catering kitchens, hotels, and premium home kitchens. Any environment that regularly handles crusty breads, plated baked goods, or presentation-sensitive slicing tasks can benefit from a professional bread knife with strong cutting consistency. Open kitchens and customer-facing foodservice environments may also appreciate the premium appearance of the DarkNitro series. From a workflow perspective, cleaner slicing improves efficiency, consistency, and finished product presentation throughout service.

Q: How does the DarkNitro Bread Knife compare with entry-level bread knives?

A: The DarkNitro Bread Knife delivers a more refined combination of cutting performance, balance, materials, and presentation than typical entry-level bread knives. Basic bread knives often focus primarily on low-cost utility, sometimes sacrificing comfort, balance, edge consistency, or overall craftsmanship.
