TRADITION AND QUALITY MEET DESIGN
The year 1905 was one of radical change and technical progress. It was precisely during these exciting times that the Swabian knife manufacturer Friedr. Dick scrutinised the knife designs that had been common up to that time. Knife handles had always been attached to the forged blade with 3 rivets. This meant that the knives of many knife manufacturers were identical down to the last detail. Friedr. Dick developed a unique series of knives that clearly stood out from all previous designs.

INNOVATIVE DESIGN
Friedr. Dick already had an eye for beautiful design in 1905 when it developed a knife series with solid collars. These replaced the round rivets that had been known and in use until then. Unfortunately, this early 20th century design has fallen into oblivion, but it experienced a revival in 2010. All knives in the 1905 series have a distinctive handle. Steel rings alternate with the high-quality and resistant plastic without gaps, making the handle a haptic as well as a visual experience. The F. DICK embossing on the knife blade completes the classically modern design of the series.

SHARP BLADE
Yet the knives in the 1905 series can do more than just look beautiful. They also have very sharp quality features: The high-end chrome steel XCrMoV15 keeps your blade sharp for a long time. This edge retention supports you in your daily use. The blade is honed twice and is therefore particularly sharp.

SAFETY
Safety is also taken care of. A half bolster finger guard protects your fingers, but you can also easily resharpen the cutting edge completely. In the 1905 series, many classic but also special knife shapes are available, leaving nothing to be desired.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping.
Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

People Also Ask:

Q: What is the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife Black 5" best for?

A: The F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife Black 5" is best for cutting hard cheeses, portioning parmesan, and finely processing fresh herbs with precision and control. Its short, rigid blade is designed for specialty prep where accuracy matters more than length. In professional kitchens, deli counters, gourmet retail, and cheese service environments, this knife helps operators break down parmesan wedges, aged cheeses, and dense hard cheeses cleanly without crushing texture or creating excessive waste. Beyond the technical features, what matters most is how this performs in daily prep. The 1905 Series combines premium German steel with the iconic steel-ring handle construction, giving users excellent balance, durability, and a confident grip during repetitive cutting tasks.

Q: Who should use the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife?

A: This knife is ideal for chefs, cheese mongers, deli teams, specialty grocers, butchers, and culinary professionals who regularly work with hard cheeses and precision garnish prep. It is especially valuable in operations where presentation and product control directly affect profitability. Parmesan service, cheese boards, charcuterie programs, and high-end prep stations all benefit from a purpose-built knife rather than using a general chef’s knife for every task. From a business perspective, the impact shows up in consistency, speed, and reduced product waste. A dedicated cheese knife improves workflow while protecting both product quality and staff efficiency.

Q: Can the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife handle parmesan and aged hard cheeses?

A: Yes, this knife is specifically designed to handle parmesan, pecorino, grana padano, and other firm aged cheeses that require controlled cutting pressure. Hard cheeses demand a blade that can separate dense texture cleanly without slipping or crumbling the product. The compact blade profile gives better leverage and precision when cutting wedges, shaving portions, or preparing service-ready presentations. That is where the 1905 Series becomes a real advantage. Its forged construction and professional balance help maintain accuracy even during repeated prep in busy service environments.

Q: Is the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife suitable for fresh herbs as well?

A: Yes, it performs very well for fine herb preparation, especially when precise chopping and controlled handling are required. Unlike larger chef’s knives, the shorter blade allows tighter movement for herbs such as basil, parsley, chives, and dill, particularly in smaller prep stations or finishing work near service. In practical terms, this means smoother workflows for garnish stations, deli prep, and finishing plates where speed and presentation must work together.

Q: Is the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife better for professionals or serious home users?

A: It is built primarily for professional use, but serious home cooks who value premium tools will also appreciate its performance. The 1905 Series was developed for professional standards, durability, edge retention, hygiene, and ergonomic comfort under daily use. For chefs and food retailers, this supports demanding prep volumes. For advanced home users, it delivers precision and long-term reliability well beyond entry-level cutlery. Whether you run a busy operation or a serious home kitchen, the right equipment changes everything.

Q: How durable is the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife?

A: The knife is highly durable and built for long-term professional use with forged German steel and a handle construction designed for daily performance. Durability is critical when working with hard cheeses because excessive force can quickly expose weaknesses in lower-grade knives. The 1905 Series is engineered to resist that issue through strong blade integrity, dependable edge retention, and a handle that remains stable over years of use. Professionalism is core to everything we do, and tools like this are selected because they continue performing long after standard retail knives need replacement.

Q: What results should users expect from the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife?

A: Users should expect cleaner cuts, better portion control, less product waste, and more consistent presentation. Hard cheeses often chip, crack, or crumble when the wrong knife is used. A purpose-built parmesan knife helps preserve appearance while improving yield, especially important for retail display, plated presentation, and premium cheese service. From a profitability standpoint, better cuts mean stronger margins. Less waste and faster prep directly support operational efficiency.

Q: Does the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife work well in deli and cheese counter environments?

A: Yes, it is particularly well suited for deli counters, cheese departments, and specialty food retail operations. These environments require knives that deliver both function and visual professionalism. Staff need reliable cutting performance, while customers notice product presentation and the quality of the tools being used. The 1905 Series supports both. Its heritage design communicates premium craftsmanship while its cutting performance supports daily service standards.

Q: Is the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife easy to control during detailed cutting?

A: Yes, the 5-inch blade size offers excellent control for detailed work and precision handling. Shorter specialty knives reduce overreach and improve hand positioning, especially when working with small portions, wedges, or garnish prep. This gives operators better confidence and safer movement during repetitive tasks. Combined with the signature steel-ring handle design, the knife feels balanced and stable rather than heavy or awkward.

Q: Is the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife easy to maintain?

A: Yes, it is designed for professional maintenance and performs best with regular proper sharpening and correct knife care. Like all premium professional knives, performance depends on maintenance. Regular honing, correct storage, and appropriate sharpening protect edge retention and extend service life significantly. That is where the wider F. Dick system becomes valuable. The brand supports a full sharpening ecosystem, allowing operators to maintain consistent performance rather than replacing knives unnecessarily.

Q: Does this knife work with standard professional sharpening tools?

A: Yes, it is fully compatible with standard professional sharpening steels and sharpening systems used for premium chef knives. Many operators prefer staying within the same professional knife ecosystem for consistency. F. Dick’s sharpening tools are widely trusted because they are designed around maintaining professional edge performance across the full knife range. This creates a repeatable system rather than a one-time purchase, especially important in kitchens and retail teams managing multiple knives.

Q: What is included with the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife?

A: The product includes the finished professional knife itself, ready for operational use within a premium foodservice or culinary environment. It is a dedicated specialty knife rather than a multi-piece set, which is exactly what many professionals prefer when building a precise working kit. The focus is on purpose-built performance for cheese and herb preparation. Specialized tools often outperform general-purpose alternatives because every design decision supports one specific task exceptionally well.

Q: What makes the F. Dick 1905 Series different from standard kitchen knives?

A: The 1905 Series stands out for its forged construction, iconic steel-ring handle design, professional balance, and premium long-term durability. Originally inspired by a historic F. Dick design, the series blends traditional craftsmanship with modern hygiene and ergonomics. The visible steel rings are not only distinctive; they also support structural stability and professional handling. This makes the knife a preferred choice for operators seeking excellence rather than entry-level utility.

Q: How does the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife compare to a standard chef’s knife?

A: It offers better precision and better control for hard cheese and herb work than a standard chef’s knife. A chef’s knife is versatile, but specialty knives improve results when the task is highly specific. Hard cheeses and detail prep benefit from a shorter blade and more controlled pressure, reducing waste and improving presentation. Using the right tool is not about adding complexity; it is about improving consistency where it matters most.

Q: How does the F. Dick 1905 Series compare to ProDynamic for this type of knife?

For premium cheese counters, high-end restaurants, and specialty retail, the 1905 Series often becomes the preferred choice because the tool reflects the product being served.

Q: Is the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife reliable in high-demand kitchen service?

A: Yes, it is built for consistent daily use in professional kitchens where speed, precision, and durability are non-negotiable. Chefs working service need tools that respond predictably every time. Whether portioning parmesan for pasta stations or finishing herb prep during rush periods, this knife supports clean execution without slowing the line. When performance on the line matters, reliable specialty tools protect both workflow and standards.

Q: Is the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife a good fit for premium cheese retail displays?

Q: Is the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife a good investment for culinary students?

Choose proven brands, expert guidance, and tools that support long-term development, not short-term replacement.

Q: Is the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife worth specifying for multi-location operations?

A: Yes, especially for premium deli, cheese, and culinary programs where consistent presentation and controlled product handling matter across locations. From a procurement perspective, consistency is often more valuable than short-term savings.

Q: Is the F. Dick 1905 Herb & Parmesan Cheese Knife worth it for home entertaining and cheese boards?
