TRADITION AND QUALITY MEET DESIGN
The year 1905 was one of radical change and technical progress. It was precisely during these exciting times that the Swabian knife manufacturer Friedr. Dick scrutinised the knife designs that had been common up to that time. Knife handles had always been attached to the forged blade with 3 rivets. This meant that the knives of many knife manufacturers were identical down to the last detail. Friedr. Dick developed a unique series of knives that clearly stood out from all previous designs.

INNOVATIVE DESIGN
Friedr. Dick already had an eye for beautiful design in 1905 when it developed a knife series with solid collars. These replaced the round rivets that had been known and in use until then. Unfortunately, this early 20th century design has fallen into oblivion, but it experienced a revival in 2010. All knives in the 1905 series have a distinctive handle. Steel rings alternate with the high-quality and resistant plastic without gaps, making the handle a haptic as well as a visual experience. The F. DICK embossing on the knife blade completes the classically modern design of the series.

SHARP BLADE
Yet the knives in the 1905 series can do more than just look beautiful. They also have very sharp quality features: The high-end chrome steel XCrMoV15 keeps your blade sharp for a long time. This edge retention supports you in your daily use. The blade is honed twice and is therefore particularly sharp.

SAFETY
Safety is also taken care of. A half bolster finger guard protects your fingers, but you can also easily resharpen the cutting edge completely. In the 1905 series, many classic but also special knife shapes are available, leaving nothing to be desired.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping.
Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

People Also Ask:

Q: What is the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Serrated Utility Knife best for?

A: This knife is best for precision cutting tasks that require a clean, controlled bite such as slicing tomatoes, sausages, bread rolls, and delicate produce with tough skins. The serrated edge is designed to grip and cut through surfaces that standard straight-edge knives tend to slip on. In practical terms, this means more consistent slices with less pressure, especially in fast-paced prep environments. The compact 10 cm blade also provides excellent maneuverability for detail work, making it a dependable secondary knife on the line. Within professional kitchens, this type of utility knife often becomes a go-to tool for repetitive, high-frequency tasks where efficiency and consistency matter.

Q: Who should use the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Serrated Utility Knife?

A: This knife is ideal for chefs, butchers, deli staff, and serious home cooks who need reliable performance for fine prep and slicing tasks. The 1905 Series is positioned as a premium, heritage line, combining traditional German craftsmanship with modern ergonomics. For professionals, it supports high-volume prep with minimal fatigue. For advanced home users, it delivers professional-grade control and cutting precision typically found in commercial kitchens. From a business perspective, it suits operations that prioritize quality presentation, consistency, and long-term tool reliability.

Q: Can the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Serrated Utility Knife handle delicate produce like tomatoes or citrus?

A: Yes, it is specifically designed to cut delicate produce cleanly without crushing or tearing. The serrated blade edge grips the skin and initiates the cut with minimal downward force. This is especially valuable for tomatoes, citrus, and other soft interiors with firm exteriors, where maintaining structure and visual appeal is critical. In display-driven environments such as delis or prepared food counters, this translates directly into better product presentation and reduced waste.

Q: Is the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Serrated Utility Knife suitable for professional kitchen use?

A: Yes, it is built for continuous use in demanding professional environments. The knife combines durable German steel with a balanced construction that supports repeated cutting tasks throughout a full shift. The 1905 Series is known for its seamless handle design, which enhances hygiene and durability, two key priorities in commercial kitchens. For chefs and foodservice teams, this means dependable performance with minimal maintenance interruptions.

Q: How sharp and effective is the serrated edge on this knife?

A: The serrated edge delivers long-lasting cutting performance with minimal need for frequent sharpening. Unlike straight-edge knives, serrations maintain their effectiveness over extended use because the cutting points wear more slowly. This makes the knife particularly efficient for repetitive slicing tasks where consistent results are required over time. In practical terms, operators benefit from reduced downtime and consistent cutting quality across shifts.

Q: What kind of cutting results should users expect from this knife?

A: Users can expect clean, uniform slices with minimal tearing or compression. The blade geometry and serration pattern are engineered to maintain control while reducing drag. This ensures that soft or delicate items retain their structure, while firmer items are cut efficiently without slipping. For foodservice operations, this consistency supports both presentation standards and portion control.

Q: How durable is the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Serrated Utility Knife?

A: This knife is highly durable and designed for long-term professional use. Friedr. Dick knives are manufactured using high-quality steel and precision engineering, resulting in strong edge retention and structural integrity. The 1905 Series specifically emphasizes durability through its rivet-free, hygienic handle construction. Over time, this translates into a reliable tool that withstands daily wear in busy kitchens and food processing environments.

Q: Does the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Serrated Utility Knife fit into standard knife storage systems?

A: Yes, it integrates easily with standard knife racks, rolls, and magnetic storage systems. Its compact size and traditional profile make it compatible with most professional storage solutions used in kitchens and butcher shops. This ensures seamless integration into existing workflows without requiring specialized equipment. For teams managing multiple knives, this simplifies organization and accessibility.

Q: Can this knife be maintained with standard sharpening tools?

A: It requires specialized serrated knife sharpening tools rather than standard honing steels. While the edge holds well over time, maintaining serrations properly typically involves professional sharpening services or specific tools designed for serrated blades. This is consistent with industry norms and ensures the knife continues to perform at its intended level.

Q: How easy is the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Serrated Utility Knife to handle during extended use?

A: It is designed for comfortable, fatigue-resistant handling during prolonged prep work. The ergonomic handle and balanced construction reduce strain on the hand and wrist. The 1905 Series also features a distinctive steel ring handle design, offering both visual identity and functional grip stability. In high-volume environments, this contributes to smoother workflows and improved operator comfort.

Q: Is the knife easy to clean and maintain in a commercial kitchen?

A: Yes, it is designed for hygienic, easy cleaning. The seamless handle construction minimizes crevices where food particles and bacteria can accumulate. This supports compliance with strict food safety standards and simplifies daily cleaning routines. For operations focused on hygiene and efficiency, this is a critical advantage.

Q: What makes the 1905 Series different from other Friedr. Dick knife series?

A: The 1905 Series combines historic design elements with modern performance and hygiene standards. Unlike entry-level lines such as ProDynamic, the 1905 Series features a unique rivet-replacement design using steel rings, creating a seamless and highly durable handle. It also emphasizes premium fit, finish, and balance. This positions it as a long-term investment for professionals who prioritize both performance and craftsmanship.

Q: What is included when purchasing this knife?

A: The purchase includes the fully assembled serrated utility knife, ready for immediate use. There are no additional accessories included, as this is a standalone professional tool. However, it integrates easily into existing knife systems and workflows. For buyers, this means straightforward deployment without setup requirements.

Q: How does the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Serrated Utility Knife compare to straight-edge utility knives?

A: It performs better on foods with tough exteriors and soft interiors, while straight-edge knives excel at clean cuts on uniform textures. The serrated edge provides superior grip and cutting initiation, reducing slipping and improving safety. Straight-edge knives, by contrast, are better suited for precision slicing of meats or uniform vegetables. In practice, most professional kitchens use both types to cover different prep needs.

Q: How does the 1905 Series compare to other premium knife brands?

A: It stands out for its combination of heritage craftsmanship, durability, and professional utility focus. Compared to brands that emphasize aesthetics or lighter designs, Friedr. Dick prioritizes performance in demanding environments, particularly in butcher and high-volume kitchen settings. Its integrated sharpening ecosystem also supports long-term use. This makes it a practical choice for professionals who value reliability and system integration.

Q: Is the Friedr. Dick 1905 Series Serrated Utility Knife reliable in high-demand kitchen environments?
