People Also Ask:

Q: What makes the ScanBox Under Counter HF05 Crosswise different?

A: The Crosswise model holds 5 GN 1/1 containers loaded across the width of the cabinet rather than front to back. That makes it wider and much shallower than the standard HF05, at 750 mm wide by 580 mm deep, so it fits under shallow buffet and serving counters.

Q: Who is the ScanBox HF05 Crosswise best suited for?

A: It suits caterers, hotel banquet teams, buffets, carveries and deli hot food counters where the counter is too shallow for a standard under counter unit. It keeps hot food at the point of service without blocking walkways or taking floor space behind the line.

Q: Will the HF05 Crosswise fit under my counter?

A: The cabinet measures 750 mm wide, 580 mm deep and 812 mm high, so it needs at least 812 mm of clear height and 580 mm of depth. Measure at the lowest point under the counter, including any apron rail, and leave room for the door to open.

Q: Why does crosswise loading matter for GN 1/1 pans?

A: A GN 1/1 pan is 530 mm long, and the Crosswise interior is 557 mm wide, so pans slide in with their long side facing the door. Staff can see and reach the whole pan when they open the cabinet, which speeds up plating at a buffet or pass.

Q: How much food does the ScanBox HF05 Crosswise hold?

A: It holds 5 GN 1/1 containers, about 30 to 50 portions, with a maximum of 45 kg of food. Each level carries up to 9 kg, so spread heavy pans across the rails.

Q: What temperature does the HF05 Crosswise reach?

A: The fan heating system allows temperatures of up to 90°C, set through the ScanBox Digital Control. Canadian food safety guidance calls for hot food to be held at 60°C or higher, so the cabinet can run comfortably above that line.

Q: Can the HF05 Crosswise run on a standard Canadian outlet?

A: The listed specification is 100 to 125 V at 3.21 A and 385 W, well within a standard 15 A circuit. Confirm the electrical configuration of your unit with our team when you order.

Q: What is the usable interior space?

A: The interior is 557 mm wide, 452 mm high and 392 mm deep, for a volume of 98 litres. The removable U-guide rails sit at 80 mm spacing, and leaving a rail empty doubles the height available for a deeper pan.

Q: How do I control moisture in the HF05 Crosswise?

A: The heating system includes ventilation, so you can let moisture escape for fried or breaded food that needs to stay crisp and keep it in for braised dishes, rice and vegetables. Matching the setting to the menu keeps each item closer to how the kitchen made it.

Q: Is the ScanBox HF05 Crosswise easy to move?

A: Yes. It weighs 43 kg empty and up to about 88 kg with a full 45 kg load, and it rolls on 125 mm lockable castors with a One-Grip Handle. Lock the castors while loading and during service.

Q: Can the HF05 Crosswise be used for off-site catering?

A: Yes, the insulated cabinet transports hot food as well as holding it. Secure it in the vehicle so it cannot roll, plug it in again on arrival, and load the first course served last.

Q: Should I choose the HF05 Crosswise or the standard HF05?

A: Choose by the space under your counter. The standard HF05 (ELSUF05) is narrow and deep at 540 mm by 810 mm, while the Crosswise is wide and shallow at 750 mm by 580 mm, and both hold 5 GN 1/1 containers.

Q: Is there a cold version of the ScanBox Under Counter?

A: Yes, the Under Counter CC05 (ELSUC05) is the cold counterpart, with compressor cooling down to 3°C. The CC05 uses the standard front-to-back layout and is 870 mm deep, so check your counter depth before pairing it with a Crosswise unit.

Q: When should I choose the Banquet Line Under Counter instead?

A: Choose the Banquet Line Under Counter (BLSUF05) when you work with the larger GN 2/1 containers. The HF05 Crosswise is the better fit for standard GN 1/1 pans under a shallow counter.

Q: Can the HF05 Crosswise work front of house?

A: Yes. Its low height, shallow depth and black RAL 9005 finish suit buffets, carving stations and serving counters in full view of guests.

Q: Is the ScanBox HF05 Crosswise easy to clean?

A: The U-guide rails are removable, so the interior can be cleaned without working around fixed runners. Unplug the cabinet before cleaning and follow the ScanBox care guidance for the electrical and control components.

Q: What comes standard on the HF05 Crosswise?

A: It comes with ScanBox Digital Control, a One-Grip Handle, a solid door, 125 mm lockable castors, removable U-guide rails with 80 mm spacing and a black RAL 9005 finish. Talk to a Food Supplies specialist about any extra options for your operation.

Q: Is the HF05 Crosswise a good choice for grocery and deli hot food?

A: Yes. Retail hot food counters are often shallow, and the Crosswise lets a deli team hold back-up pans right under the service counter, so the display can be refilled quickly without a trip to the kitchen.

Q: Is the HF05 Crosswise suitable for culinary schools?

A: Yes. A compact hot holding cabinet that fits under a teaching bench lets students practise holding and timing the way a professional brigade does, without taking classroom floor space.

Q: Why buy the ScanBox HF05 Crosswise from Food Supplies?

A: Food Supplies is the exclusive Canadian distributor of ScanBox, with warehouses in Etobicoke, Ontario and Langley, British Columbia. We have supplied professional kitchens since 1993, and our team can help you choose between the Crosswise and the standard under counter layouts.
